Advancing Equity in Local News: Meet CO Media Project’s New 2023 Grantees

On Tuesday, January 24 from 10 to 11 a.m. MT, join Colorado Media Project for a webinar to introduce a new cohort of 27 grantees receiving a total of more than $350,000 to support projects aimed at Advancing Equity in Local News.

At the free online event, you will get to hear directly from media innovators whose projects were initially funded by CMP in 2022, and are now embarking on a second year of work to build more inclusive newsrooms and stronger community connections.

CMP’s Advancing Equity in Local News fund is a multi-year grant opportunity that was set up to address calls to action made by community members and journalists of color through The Voices Initiative, a listening and visioning project led by the Colorado News Collaborative and community liaisons, with support from CMP since 2020.

In response to these community calls to action, CMP’s Advancing Equity in Local News fund priorities are to:

• Strengthen internal capacity-building efforts to increase diversity, equity and inclusion in Colorado newsrooms
• Strengthen connections and build trust between Colorado newsrooms and the diverse communities they serve
• Support more diverse and inclusive civic news leaders, entrepreneurs, owners and narratives

CMP’s Advancing Equity in Local News fund is supported by a coalition of foundations that have collectively committed more than $3.8 million over the next four years toward CMP’s mission to support people, projects, and organizations working to build a more resilient, more collaborative, and more just and inclusive local news and information ecosystem for all Coloradans.
