Apply for the Dimensions of Difference Virtual Workshop

The New Leaders Association is excited to partner with Trusting News and Spaceship Media to offer the Dimensions of Difference virtual workshop to its members and their newsroom team at no cost!

The Dimensions of Difference workshop is designed to support newsrooms  in creating better content by helping them identify, understand and talk about their own differences internally, in service of more accurate coverage of the complex communities they serve.

DETAILS: The workshop will take place over two and a half weeks via five 90-minute Zoom sessions on Feb. 14, 17, 21, 24 and 28. It is conversation-based (not presentation-based), and full participation is important. Teams should plan to spend a few additional hours each week outside of those live sessions. Each team will receive individualized support throughout the workshop, along with a follow-up coaching call afterward, to support the newsroom’s action plans.

PARTICIPANTS: To qualify, one team member must be a member of NLA in good standing. We will accept teams of two or three people from each of six newsrooms. At least one person from each team needs to be a member of top newsroom leadership.

WORKSHOP FACILITATORS: The workshop will be led by Joy Mayer of Trusting News and Eve Pearlman of Spaceship Media. The team created this workshop together after hours of conversations about journalism’s dominant values and assumptions and who feels left out — both on staff and in the public. Read more about their approach here:

DEADLINE: To apply, just click the button below. Each applicant from your newsroom should fill out the application. For any general questions you know a colleague has already answered about the newsroom overall, feel free to write “see application from Name Here.” The deadline for applications is Jan 13.

WANT TO KNOW MORE:  Trusting News and Spaceship Media will host a webinar on Jan. 12 at 1 p.m. to talk about the workshop concepts. It’s a great introduction for newsrooms that want to learn more.
