Apply: Fund for Investigative Journalism Grant

The Fund for Investigative Journalism (FIJ) has provided more support to more journalists over the last 12 months than at any time in our nearly 54-year history — and the stories produced with FIJ support are having a bigger impact than ever, helping spark more than 20 policy changes in the last year alone.

The next deadline to apply for grants from the Fund is Monday, May 9, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern. Journalists whose proposals are accepted will be notified and receive first payment in June.

Grants are up to $10,000 to cover the expenses of investigations, including reporters’ time. Grantees can also request editorial mentorship and free legal help.

The grant application includes a brief summary, a full proposal (including the investigative plan), a budget explaining how the funds would be spent, a letter of commitment from a media outlet to publish the story and background on the journalist.

The Fund’s Board of Directors, all accomplished journalists, reviews grant proposals and decides which ones to approve.
