‘Reach, Representation and Respect’: A Virtual Conversation with Indigenous Voices

You’re invited to join a virtual event to dive into the recommendations in the newly-released report — Reach, Representation and Respect: Recommendations to Improve Relations Between Indigenous Communities and Local News in Colorado — which extols the counsel of members of Indigenous communities in Colorado for better and more effective news coverage.

We encourage you to read the report and consider what your role can be in bringing the recommendations to fruition, and join us on May 25 for a virtual event.

Tara McLain Manthey, a member of the Osage Nation, will moderate a conversation with Indigenous leaders, including Cultivando’s Executive Director, Olga Gonzalez, Yaqui and Otomi, and KSUT Tribal Radio’s Digital Content Editor, Crystal Ashike (Diné), to highlight actions local news outlets can take moving forward. The discussion will focus on the ways the words voiced by Indigenous communities can be turned into action.

This project is a partnership among the Colorado News Collaborative (COLab), Colorado Media Project (CMP), Mountain West News Bureau (a regional collaboration of public media stations serving the Rocky Mountain States of Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming), and The Colorado Trust.
