The 2022 Better News Media Contest, recognizing work published in the last year (Jan. 1, 2022 – Dec. 31, 2022), opened for entries on January 1, 2023.
Here’s what you need to know:
Dates and deadlines: The contest will open Jan. 1 and early bird pricing will go until March 10. After that, entry prices will increase and the final deadline will be March 17, 2023.
No deadline extensions will be permitted, so we strongly encourage contest managers to log in to the online contest portal early to ensure any problems are identified and resolved prior to the deadline. The site opens on Jan. 1.
Classes: The class structure remained the same as last year. Each news organization provided the number of original stories they publish on average per month. Based on this number and the publication’s frequency (daily, weekly, monthly), we’ve placed them in the corresponding class. Anyone is allowed to move up to a larger class, but can not opt to move down.
Check your class assignment in the Contest Guidebook (scroll down) and see who you’ll be competing against.
Categories: Categories largely stayed the same as last year, with the addition of several new categories at the suggestion of our members and after review by the contest committee.
Contest Guidebook: The 2022 Contest Guidebook contains all of the information you’ll need. This includes dates, class assignments, categories and entry instructions.
