Taking back the narrative: Changing Media Representation of Asian Americans

On May 26, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. MST, The Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) and the Wikimedia Foundation are co-hosting a virtual event on the topic of increasing representation of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities in the news, Wikipedia, and across the information landscape.

From AAPI and the Wikimedia Foundation:

This past year we saw a rise in acts of violence and xenophobia perpetrated against people of Asian descent, further exasperating biases and a lack of representation of AAPI voices in the media and across the web. Speakers will discuss how Wikipedia and journalists can act as partners to increase the representation of AAPI voices in the news media and online landscape, address biases, and encourage everyone to get involved in amending these critical gaps.

This free virtual event will bring together expert speakers from journalism, Wikipedia, and the nonprofit sector working to improve the representation of AAPI communities across the internet and media landscape.
